I can’t believe it’s already December!! Now that we are all moved in and things are settling down I can finally start planning some holiday fun. I’ve been able to cross a few things off our list. We took the kids to meet Santa, cut down our tree and picked out which cookies we plan to bake. Pretty good start, right? Now that the girls are a little older we would love to start a few Holiday traditions with them. I’ve put together a small, but fun, list of things we are going to start this year!
Every year we’ve bought the girls new PJ’s to wear Christmas eve, but this year we plan to do it as a family. I can’t wait for all of the fun photo opportunities.
Going to the movies.
We’ve never actually gone to the movies as a family so this is going to be REALLY special! Madeleine recently saw the trailer for Sing© and has been begging to see it ever since. I’m pretty excited to see this tone too! It comes out December 21st so it may be our Christmas eve activity. I’ve gone to see a movie on Christmas in the past and it was so fun- I think they would love it!
Right now you can enter the Sing Sweepstakes for a chance to win the $100,000 grand prize! Plus you can also instantly win lots of prizes including movie tickets, speakers and more.
Make Christmas breakfast.
I’ve been recipe planning non stop for this! Growing up we would make canned cinnamon rolls (the orange was my brother’s favorite!). I wanted to something a little bit different for us. I recently tested a recipe out for crusted french toast and it was delicious. While I was at Target the other day I grabbed a box of Honey-Comb cereal and decided to use that for the crust. Best. Decision. Ever.
It was so good I have to share the recipe with you!
Honey-Comb Crusted French Toast
- 1/4 cup half & half or milk
- 3 whole eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 slices thick sliced bread
- 1 cup Honey-Comb cereal, crushed
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted (plus more for pan)
Start by mixing the milk, eggs, vanilla and 1/4 tsp of cinnamon in a shallow dish. I used a brownie pan for mine!
In a separate bowl mix the cereal, 1/4 tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of sugar together. Slowly add the melted butter and toss together. You don’t want it to be soggy- just moist!
Heat up a non stick skillet and toss some butter in there. While it’s heating up start dipping the bread in the egg mixture (make sure you get both sides). I like to hold it up and let the extra drip off. Then do the same with the cereal mixture, using your fingers to press the cereal into the bread. I cooked mine for about 4 minutes on each side.
Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 TBS powdered sugar
- 1/2 vanilla bean, scraped
- honey (optional)
This is simple- just whisk it all together!
Now assemble! Spread 1/4 of the cream cheese mixture on a slice of French Toast and add some sliced bananas. Do the same with the remaining two slices. Drizzle the top with honey and dust with powdered sugar and cinnamon! I almost added whipped cream but stopped myself before I got too crazy!
